Brighton Buddhist Centre was filled to capacity this morning, as Order Members and Mitras gathered for the first day of the Rainy Season Retreat, led by Vessantara. The theme was ‘going beyond self’, yet seemingly with no ‘self’ to go beyond, and no ‘self’ with which to go beyond it! Vessantara spoke rather of ‘selfing’, a way in which we function, contracting around a sense of ‘me’ that is separate from everything else ‘out there’. We were guided through this topic with beautifully expressed words, humourous stories and led meditations, ‘letting life unfold’ ….
